The Frontier Region of South Africa’s Eastern Cape, incredibly beautiful and peaceful, was once the most contested area of the country. It’s called Frontier Country and bears the
scars of nine Frontier wars, the first beginning in 1779 and the last one ending a hundred years later.
It was one of the most prolonged struggles by African people against European intrusion.
The programme, which explores this largely unknown area of South Africa with its countless forts, is embellished with dramatic re-enactments of battles fought between the Xhosa people and European settlers.
