South Africa’s undiscovered gem – the Western Cape. In spring this hauntingly beautiful area explodes into a kaleidoscope of brilliant flowers. Here, too, are 5 million year old fossils that lie in-situ for all to see. This proverbial Garden of Eden is the legendary home of Eve – her 117 000 year-old footprint has been found alongside the Langebaan Lagoon. This was also the home of the San people who left their paintings on the walls of caves throughout the Cedarberg, a range of mountains where nature has over the aeons caved monumental sandstone sculptures. It’s also an area that inspired Louis Leipoldt, the well-known South African poet who lies buried in a cave in his beloved mountains.
